Allow me to introduce to you a great friend and entrepreneur Liz Nonnemacher.

I’m Liz Nonnemacher from Wickedly Chic, a website dedicated to the promotion, marketing and support of independent businesses.

What is your business about? Wickedly Chic is about supporting the independent business owner and connecting them with readers/shoppers who are interested in their products or services.

How did you become an entrepreneur? I think it was in my blood. Almost everyone in my entire family through generations have been entrepreneurs. But I became one myself quite by accident and without a real intention that was set.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur? Making my own hours, designing my own business & being able to serve others to help their businesses grow.

What challenges did you face? Lack of experience or direction. When I started the Wickedly Chic website, the only thing that I really knew how to do online was to write email and place orders. For the most part, I had to teach myself and then was able to find amazingly talented & creative people along the way to help me.

Biggest mindset shift? At the beginning, I was really concentrating on the website and didn’t intend to start it as a business. It was more like a hobby. It took me some time to figure out that this could be a full-scale business that actually made money. Initially, I was continually contacted by businesses that were looking for free promotion but you cannot give away your services and sustain any kind of business or even WANT to do that for long. I had to look long-term and at serving on a larger scale.

I think one of the most important things is to think about making a living AND providing value. What can you provide that others cannot? Also keep in mind that we are all totally unique and have wonderful gifts to offer to the world.

Spending too much time working and not enough time having fun. I’m definitely working on that end & doing better with it.

How would you rate your success? After 6 years, I would say that on a scale of 1 to 10, I’m at about a 6. I’ve come a VERY long way and still have more to conquer. And that’s a great thing. Always be reaching for the next step. It makes the journey more fun and exciting.

Do you believe you are a failure if you are following exactly what the gurus tell you to to? Are you thinking and speaking positively? They tell you how to manifest success yet it EVADES you? What next? You feel like crap because its not working and you feel like you did something wrong. Get over it. It is not a one size fits all. Do you know what your strengths are? I started my business expecting congratulatory high fives. What I got was a lot of other people’s issues.  Of course I can stand back and say that now, but when I was in the midst of being grilled about money and my business I will be the first to say it sucked.  The common question was.. How can you make money doing that? (Big attitude behind the question). Why would they want to pay you?  The support was null and void.  I was on the defensive trying to answer these questions.  Quite frankly it doesn’t matter what responses you give.  The same questions will keep coming.

Who the hell needs that? Definitely not me.  One thing I learned and would love to pass on to you is, stop trying to defend yourself, especially when you are just going round and round..it is time to stop the nonsense.  You are wasting precious energy trying to explain what you are doing to someone who is so set in their thoughts and beliefs that if it doesn’t pertain to a 9-5 job with benefits, then you are wasting your time.

When I started “It’s All About YES” four years after starting my own business, the questions rolled in again.  Why are you doing this? How do you get paid? What do you mean you are not making money from this?

Seriously, are we back to this? AGAIN?  I am doing this group for my reasons why should it matter to someone else?  The logical answer is NO but for some reason it is still an issue.  The point here is that it’s their issue not mine.  I have nothing to prove to them.

If you are being asked these pointless questions don’t sweat it, just continue on your journey.  Maybe it would make them feel better if you drove a luxury car or lived on snob hill, but then there will be something else for them to complain about it.

It is YOUR life say yes to you!

How many times have you noticed the loneliness when working from home? Do you have a support system in place when you need to just talk? When you have a job you have that constant interaction good or bad.  When I first started to work from home the only company I had was mine and when Frank walked in the door I pounced.  Chatting a mile a minute, did not give him a chance to put his keys down.

How many times have you heard you are not good enough or Why waste you time on starting your own business it won’t be successful? Do you buy into that crap that you keep hearing?  Did you fall onto the path you are on from others? How can you start to challenge the automatic behaviors that you have? Listen as I catch someone else talking about what has been pounded into their brain since they were little.

How many times do you catch yourself saying later I will do this or that.  I have been hearing people wanting to avoid the complications of Mercury retrograde by going inward to reflect on their next step.  Personally sounds like an excuse to me.  How do you handle obstacles? By hiding or finding a way around it?
